The More You Buy, The More You Save

Buying in bulk is how most of our families stock their freezers. The more meat you buy, the cheaper per pound it becomes. Your choice, and you can mix and match too! Below is what we offer, including approximate net weights and freezer space requirements for your bulk purchases of beef, pork, and chicken:
Freedom Valley Farm - Cow

Beef

¼ Beef
Standard cuts
Approx. 115–125 lbs take-home meat
Freezer Space: 4 cu. ft.

½ Beef
Standard cuts or customized
Approx. 230–250 lbs take-home meat
Freezer Space: 8 cu. ft.

Whole Beef
Standard cuts or customized
Approx. 440–480 lbs take-home meat
Freezer Space: 16 cu. ft.

Freedom Valley Farm - Pig

Pork

¼ Pork
Standard cuts
Approx. 35–40 lbs take-home meat
Freezer Space: 2 cu. ft.

½ Pork
Standard cuts
Approx. 70–80 lbs take-home meat
Freezer Space: 4 cu. ft.

Whole Pork
Standard cuts or customized
Approx. 140–160 lbs take-home meat
Freezer Space: 8 cu. ft.

Freedom Valley Farm - Chicken

Chicken

4 Chicken pack
Whole or standard cut-up
Approx. 19–24 lbs chicken
Freezer Space: 0.75 cu. ft.

12 Chicken pack
Whole or standard cut-up
Approx. 57–72 lbs chicken
Freezer Space: 2.5 cu. ft.

50 Chicken pack
Fully customized processing
Approx. 240–300 lbs chicken
Freezer Space: 10 cu. ft

These figures are estimates and may vary based on the animal’s size and your custom processing selections. A 7 cu. ft. chest freezer comfortably holds about a half pig or 12 chickens. A 16 cu. ft. chest freezer comfortably holds a whole beef.

Pick It Up or Have It Shipped

You place a deposit, we have the animal processed at a USDA-inspected facility, and you either pick it up at the farm or have it shipped frozen. Same grass-fed beef, wood-lot pork and pasture raised chicken as everything else in the store, just bought all at once at the lowest price per pound we offer.

It’s a different kind of shopping decision than grabbing a pack of ground beef. You’re thinking months ahead instead of this week. And a lot of our customers tell us it’s the purchase that finally got their family eating better meat consistently — because once the freezer is fully stocked, it’s becomes to much easier to eat healthy.

Want to Customize Your Order?

Standard cuts are a list of cuts that most people are pleased with. But if you want us to call you and go over the cut sheet with you, custom cuts is the way to go.

Frequently Asked Questions

How bulk buying works

How do I buy a quarter, half, or whole cow?

Place a deposit to reserve your share. We schedule processing, walk you through the cut sheet, and you pick it up or have it shipped frozen. If you are looking for something right away, check the product page to see if we have anything in stock for immediate availability.

What's a deposit and what's the final price?

The deposit reserves your animal. The final price is based on the hanging weight of your animal. We give you an estimated price range on each product page. Your deposit comes off of your total.

What is hanging weight?

The hanging weight (or carcass weight) is the weight of the animal after head, hide, hooves, and internals are removed. Your take home weight will be a bit less than this, due to dry aging (water weight loss) and removal of excess bones, fat and sinews.

Are your animals USDA inspected?

Yes, all of our beef, chicken and pork is processed at USDA inspected facilities.

How long does the whole process take?

Sometimes we have bulk buys in stock that you can take home tomorrow. Or choose from our calendar of available date that are listed on each product page. We will email you once your bulk buy is ready for pickup or shipping, and that email will include your order total.

How much meat and freezer space

How much meat is in a quarter cow?

Roughly 115 to 125 pounds of finished, packaged beef.

How much is in a half or whole cow?

A half is about 230 to 250 pounds; a whole runs about 440 to 480 pounds. For more estimated weights, see this chart.

How much do the chicken packs weigh?

To explore the approximate weight of our chicken packs, see this chart.

What cuts come in a share?

You can see the standard cuts available for each bulk buy on the individual product pages. Choose custom cuts for completely custom options. Explore our custom cuts here.

What's the ratio of cuts in a beef bulk buy?

For our standard beef cuts, expect to receive back approximately 25% steaks, 25% roasts and 50% ground beef. These numbers can of course be altered if you choose custom cuts for your beef.

Pricing and value

Why is bulk cheaper?

When you buy a 1/4, 1/2 or whole animal, we don’t have to inventory or store that animal, taking a lot of the overhead out of the equation. We pass that savings on to you.

Can I split a share with someone?

Many of our customers split a half or whole with family or a neighbor and divide the cuts between them. Let us know ahead of time if you are planning to do this so we can make the butcher aware.

Is there a deposit to reserve?

Yes — a deposit holds your place. We’ll explain the full payment structure when you order.

Do you offer bulk pork?

Yes — quarter, half and whole pigs.

Do you offer bulk chicken?

Yes, several times throughout the spring, summer and fall we offer our fresh chicken. You can buy 1or more chickens, with even deeper discounts at 12 and 50+ chickens. You can order them whole or cut up, and mix and match as well. We take a $5 deposit per chicken ahead of time.

Cuts, pork and shipping

Can I choose my own pork cuts?

Yes, but only on whole pigs. On half and quarter pigs, you will receive our standard cuts. Explore our custom cuts here.

What cuts come from a pig bulk buy?

Chops, roasts, shoulder, ribs, bacon, sausage, and more. Standard cuts are listed on each product ordering page.

How much meat is on a 1/4, ½ or whole pig?

For estimated weights, see this chart.

Is bulk pickup at the farm or can it ship?

Your choice — pick it up at the farm or have it shipped frozen.

How far ahead should I order?

Bulk animals are limited and tied to processing schedules. Reserve early, especially for halves and wholes.
